Two-Way Dual Language
At William Lipscomb Elementary, our Two-Way Dual Language program brings English- and Spanish-speaking students together to learn with and from one another. Through rigorous instruction in both languages, students build bilingualism, biliteracy, cultural understanding, and the confidence to thrive in an increasingly connected world.
Learning in Two Languages
Lipscomb’s Two-Way Dual Language program is designed to develop students who are bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural. Students from English-speaking, Spanish-speaking, and multilingual homes learn together in an environment where both English and Spanish are valued as academic tools, cultural assets, and bridges between people.
Students receive instruction in both languages while engaging in the same high expectations that define every Lipscomb classroom. They strengthen speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills while learning to communicate across cultures, appreciate different perspectives, and collaborate with others.
At Lipscomb, Dual Language is about more than learning another language. It is about helping students become confident communicators, thoughtful problem-solvers, and globally minded learners.
Dallas ISD gradually balances instruction in Spanish and English as students progress through the elementary Dual Language program.
How Dual Language Grows Over Time
The program begins with a strong Spanish-language foundation and gradually balances instruction in both languages as students progress.
Pre-K–Kindergarten
Build a Foundation
Students begin developing language, literacy, routines, and confidence through a Spanish-rich learning environment.
First Grade
Expand Both Languages
Students continue building strong Spanish literacy while increasing their exposure to English instruction.
Second–Fifth Grade
Learn in Both Languages
Instruction reaches a balanced English-Spanish model while students deepen academic skills across content areas.
Students also work in bilingual pairs at designated times, using each other’s language strengths to better understand lessons, learning stations, and research activities.

For students who are new to Two-Way Dual Language, the primary entry point is Pre-K or Kindergarten. Dallas ISD manages current application windows, eligibility requirements, and seat availability by grade level, so families should review the district’s current information before applying.
Students with prior Dual Language experience may have additional entry options based on program history and language proficiency. Use the district’s Dual Language page for official guidance.

Students approved to attend Lipscomb through Dual Language do not need to submit a new transfer application every year. Once a student begins Kindergarten with an approved transfer, the student may remain at Lipscomb through fifth grade as long as the transfer remains in good standing.
Students attending Pre-K on transfer should still apply for Kindergarten, because Dallas ISD transfer permissions begin in Kindergarten.
